The Caligri Airtube Switch XL is the next evolutionary step of the proven Airtube Switch, designed for DPs, gaffers and photographers who demand maximum control over soft, cinematic light. With its enlarged diameter of approx. 30 cm, it delivers a significantly bigger emitting surface – perfect for ultra-soft, directional light and wide, clean reflections on products, glass and other glossy surfaces.
As with all Caligri products, light character remains fully flexible: thanks to the Switch system you can change diffusion at any time – from the well-known Magic Cloth® to TRP Lite Grid Cloth, Quarter Grid Cloth, or custom diffusions. This lets you fine-tune the Airtube Switch XL to any scene, subject or mood.
A key feature is the 2-in-1 functionality (for Airtube SWITCH XL 100 and 120/4ft in combination with the Airtube Switch Harness):
- Use it as a classic soft tube in front of LED tubes
- Or as a large-volume softtube in front of an LED COB spotlight (e.g. with Aputure Fresnel 2X)
Simply remove the side cap of the inflated Airtube and attach it to a small Fresnel lens using the harness strap. The larger diameter creates even softer yet directional light with a much larger aperture – ideal for high-end, cinematic lighting setups.
The Airtube Switch XL massively increases the effective light surface of your LED tubes. Mount one or multiple tubes inside the Airtube, inflate it – and you get a homogenous, soft output with exceptionally smooth falloff into the shadows. All functions of your LED tubes remain fully available, including battery operation, color control, effects and pixel control. Combining several short tubes in a long Airtube Switch XL creates extremely long, seamless reflections – a must-have look for product films, automotive work and premium photo productions.
For maximum control over spill and beam shaping, skirts and spill-light covers are included with every Airtube Switch XL. Both are made from black, almost fully light-blocking fabric that absorbs about 99 % of the light.
- The two-piece skirts close around the Airtube via hook-and-loop tape and allow you to flag off one or both sides.
- The two-piece spill-light cover blocks unwanted spill while remaining flexible to attach and always keeps access to menus and connectors.
Additional accessories such as eggcrates and further light modifiers can be mounted as needed.
To ensure reliability and repeatability, Caligri relies on proven, professional-grade materials, including Magic Cloth® and Ultrabounce® by TRP Worldwide. All Airtube Switch XL units are manufactured in Germany (“Made in Germany”) and, thanks to their larger diameter, are built to withstand the rough everyday demands of modern film and photo sets.
